Mya has spoken candidly about choosing a celibate lifestyle.
The Ghetto Supastar singer revealed that stepping away from dating for seven years “wasn’t even a choice.”
The 45-year-old had previously said that her longest period of celibacy lasted seven years, and she recently explained how that came about.
“It wasn’t even a choice. It was just what it was, and then you look up, ‘Oh, time has passed,’” Mya told British comedian Judi Love, also 45, during an interview on the Judi Love YouTube channel.
“I was fully committed to myself, and that meant focusing on business and putting out project after project… immersing myself in my passions and my gifts, the ones I may have neglected during that relationship. I changed my diet, invested in joy, and cut out the negative energy and bad habits that could turn into addictions or unhealthy forms of escape.”
After “marrying herself” in 2013, Mya embraced what she described as a spiritual transformation.
“So it was really a process of self-examination,” she explained. “I actually made a chart before the New Year, breaking down different areas and phases of my life—what I was doing, who was involved, and what achievements were happening at those times. I thought, ‘Okay, I see growth,’ but I could also pinpoint when things slipped because I let in something that didn’t belong there.”
