Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” has officially been transformed for the dance floor, thanks to a remix created by the Chainsmokers.
Earlier today, Swift’s official fan page, Taylor Nation, shared on Instagram that “The Fate of Ophelia (The Chainsmokers Remix)” is now available to download on iTunes and Amazon Music. Playing off the song’s own lyrics, the account joked that the new version is “wrapping around us like a chain, a crown, a vine.”
The DJ pair celebrated in the comments, writing, “This is truly and honor. we love u T.”
The original “The Fate of Ophelia” appears as the opening track on Swift’s twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, and has spent seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The video for the Shakespeare inspired song premiered last month during The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, Swift’s film that screened in theaters from Oct. 3 to 5.
The video, directed and written by Swift, begins with the singer portrayed as the tragic Ophelia from Hamlet inside a painting on the wall of a lavish and empty hotel, until the camera reveals that the setting is a constructed set. As the video progresses, Swift becomes different eras of classic showgirls, joined by dancers and musicians from her Eras Tour. The shimmering production ends back in a hotel room, where Swift appears as herself in a bathtub, mirroring the album’s cover art.
In Rolling Stone’s review of The Life of a Showgirl, writer Maya Georgi praises the record and notes that from “the first Fleetwood Mac inspired drumroll and melancholy keys of ‘The Fate of Ophelia,’ it is clear Swift has stepped into uncharted territory.”
“The world might know how Shakespeare’s Hamlet ends, and even how the latest chapter of Taylor’s own love story goes, but the tantalizing melody shaped by a wondrous mix of steel guitar and Omnichord trills makes you want to keep listening to find out just how Swift changed her prophecy,” Georgi writes about the striking opening track.
