As many people know, Drake has distanced himself from friends for spending time with Kendrick Lamar or for engaging with allegations that could harm his image. In a similar fashion, Top5, one of Drake’s most vocal supporters, now seems to be turning that same energy back toward him. Over the weekend, it became clear that the Toronto rapper is genuinely frustrated with someone he once admired.
Whether he will actually sever ties is still up in the air, but here is what happened. This weekend, Top5 spoke out against Drake for showing support to his rival Pressa. Pressa, also a Canadian artist, released his new project Press Machine II. Drake reposted the project on his Instagram Story, and according to Top5, he did so fully aware of the tensions between them.
Speaking with DJ Akademiks, Top5 said, "Tell me that's not crazy. He goes and posts my opp's music. Pressa was supposed to perform at Wireless, and I told Drake if he lets this guy perform, it's a problem. So, Drake pulled him out last minute," he claimed.
Frustrated and wanting to get even, Top5 responded by sharing a photo of Kendrick Lamar and even promoting "Not Like Us." While on Akademiks’ stream, he repeated one of his favorite lines, saying, "You know that part where he says 'Chubbs' with the 'hand me downs?' That’s facts."
In addition, when a journalist asked why he did not reach out to Drizzy directly, he responded, "When I said this guy's my opp, he wrote... 'I'm trying to make Toronto look good.' I said, 'I'm gonna make L.A. look good tonight.'"
Now he is raising the intensity of his criticism toward The Boy. During a call with hip hop content creator Trap Lore Ross, he declared that Drake's co signs from this point on are "dead."
He continued by saying, "Nothing was the same since Kendrick ended him." Top5 also expressed frustration over Drake filing a UMG defamation lawsuit. "You don't sue after you lose a rap beef," he said.
The remark that will likely stir the most reaction was: "I'm tired of listening to 'Not Like Us' in my f*cking mother's washroom. I wanna listen to it in public now."
If Drake did repost Pressa's album fully aware of their conflict, it would create a somewhat ironic moment considering how he has handled similar situations over the past year.
The question now is whether ICEMAN will choose to respond.
Top5 has always embraced a provocative persona, so he may decide not to. He is also known for several tracks including "Drill Some More," "Demons," and "Heard of Me."
