Miranda Lambert is grieving the loss of her 15-year-old chihuahua, Cher.
The country superstar shared on Instagram on Sunday that her cherished rescue dog had passed away the day before.
“Our sweet bear Cher crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday,” she wrote. “Cher gave us 15 years of love and all the chihuahua attitude and energy she could muster. And if you’ve ever had a chi chi, you know exactly what I mean. I adopted her from a shelter when she was just 10 weeks old in 2010. I put her in my overalls pocket at the shelter and that was it!”
Miranda included a collection of photos and videos celebrating Cher’s life, including a clip of Cher perched on her back while she did press-ups and a photo of her holding Cher during interviews at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Reflecting on that moment, she added, “Her first big trip was to the ACM Awards in Las Vegas. @tiffanygiffordstyle matched my dress to hers so she could walk the red carpet with me. And I ended up winning that year, so she joined me in the press room. She has done that her whole life. She was with me on every tour I’ve done since. Thank you, sweet soul, for all the miles you traveled with me.”
Miranda also noted that when she met her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, seven years ago, she had nine dogs, but now they have just one left, a rescue named Bellamy.
“We sure are ready for a break from the heartbreak, y’all, but they are worth every tear we’ve shed,” she said. “Animals bring so much joy, but I sure wish dog years didn’t pass so quickly. Rescues forever.”
Cher’s passing follows the recent loss of two of Miranda’s miniature horses, Sugar Pie and Adrianna, who died on the same day.
At the time, she wrote on Instagram, “The best part about being an animal mom is the joy. The hardest part is saying goodbye when the time comes.”
