Teyana Taylor was surprised with a bouquet from one of her earliest collaborators, Beyoncé, following her first ever Golden Globe win on Sunday.
The One Battle After Another actress, who was brought in to choreograph the video for Beyoncé’s Ring the Alarm when she was just 15, told Extra on Tuesday evening that the global star has always made a point of showing her support.
“It honestly meant so much. I love her so deeply,” the 35 year old said. “She has had my back since I was 15 and that support has never changed. I really cherish that she has been able to watch me grow and evolve. Making her proud means everything to me, and I love that she always reminds me of that. It truly touches my heart.”
As a teenager, Teyana was already a standout on the New York dance battle scene and was initially brought in by Beyoncé’s team to teach her the Chicken Noodle Soup dance for the 2006 music video. Instead, Teyana ended up choreographing the entire shoot, which helped kickstart her career as a dancer before she later moved into music.
After stepping back from the music industry for five years, she shifted her focus to acting, building an impressive résumé with roles in A Thousand and One, Coming 2 America and One Battle After Another, as well as the television series All’s Fair.
On Sunday night, she reached a major milestone by taking home the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture award for Paul Thomas Anderson’s critically praised film.
Teyana also shared that her daughters, Junie, 10, and Rue, five, were watching the ceremony from the backstage lobby at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
“They came down from the suite and I ran straight to them and wrapped them up in my arms. It was unbelievable,” she said excitedly. “Even when I was onstage, I kept thinking about them. I was like, ‘My babies.’ Knowing they were watching made me so happy.”
She can next be seen starring alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the crime thriller The Rip, which premieres on Netflix this Friday.
