Usher and Chris Brown have welcomed numerous surprise performers throughout their “R&B” tour, apparently leaving some concertgoers unsure about everyone appearing onstage. Following their weekend performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, a strange rumor claimed the Confessions singer had recruited a clone to take his place.
The theory spread widely enough for Usher to address it personally. “Ya'll are funny...clone? They can't clone this??” he wrote beneath an Instagram post discussing the claim, according to Complex Music. “How ya'll come up with this? [Three crying-laughing emojis] AI ain't that advanced.”
Usher has previously joked about online rumors, so his relaxed reaction was hardly unexpected. However, imagining how such a plan might work is still entertaining. When MF DOOM famously used performers known as DOOM bots, they only needed to handle the rapping, while an Usher concert requires singing, dancing, and much more.
It remains unclear whether the unusual theory will follow Usher into future dates. The “R&B” pair will continue touring until December 12, when the run concludes with a final performance in Tampa, Florida.
Usher Clowns Clone Rumors
Still, this is not even the strangest story to emerge from Usher’s tour so far. That distinction currently belongs to the Gabrielle Cheyenne controversy, which began after the female attendee experienced an uncomfortable interaction with the singer during an intimate portion of the show.
Gabrielle later defended herself against critics by claiming she would have preferred Breezy. Usher appeared to answer Gabrielle without naming her during a performance in Alabama. “Before we get started, don't bring your a** up here if you don't want to be here... God don't like ugly, but he certainly don't feel too good about pretty privilege either,” he told the crowd.
Despite the unusual headlines, the “R&B” tour has remained highly successful inside venues and across social media. Further investigation may finally put the clone rumor to rest, unless suspicious fans continue asking for explanations.
