Kesha is celebrating the long-awaited release of the music video for her song Backstabber.
The Tik Tok hitmaker originally featured the track on her debut album, Animal, which arrived in January 2010.
Although Kesha filmed a video for the song in Los Angeles around that time, the footage remained unreleased until it finally appeared online on Monday.
In an Instagram post, she recalled: “In 2009, I knew I wanted Backstabber to be a single, so I took it upon myself to make this video to convince everyone that it deserved its moment. My friends and I stayed up all night, did our own glam, and shot this video!! It was so authentic to that moment in my life, before everything changed.”
The video features Kesha dancing on a pavement with her friends, sporting her signature punk-inspired style, complete with a tiger-print swimsuit, glittery eye make-up and tousled hair.
The 39-year-old added: “It was my first music video, and I just knew I needed it to work. Finally... in 2026... it's OUT! This video will always have a special place in my heart. And thanks to those backstabbers :) I appreciate the inspo.”
When a fan on X asked why the footage had taken so long to surface, Kesha offered a brief response: “longggg storyyyyyyy.”
“I been trying to this whole time,” she added.
Kesha has not explained the reason behind the delay. However, she was involved in a high-profile legal dispute with her former producer, Dr. Luke, from 2014 until the case was settled out of court in June 2023.
