Loud Magazine: What inspired you to pursue a career in music, and what keeps you motivated to continue creating and performing?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: Growing up I became heavily influenced by 90's r&b. My favorite group back in the day was H-Town. I loved the lead singer of the group, Dino. Listening to Dino and H-Town inspired me to want to sing and become a musician. My love for music is what keeps me motivated to continue creating music and performing. Music is something that I just love to do & the dream of one day hearing hundreds or thousands of people singing lyrics and melodies that came from my brain is something that I'd love to experience one day.
Loud Magazine: Can you tell us about your earliest musical influences and how they have shaped your sound and style?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: My earliest musical influences were H-Town and R Kelly. Both of these artists helped to shape my current style. Sometimes I hear a beat and I ask myself how would Dino (from H-Town) or R Kelly approach writing to this beat and it helps me come up with melodies and interesting lyrics that I hope will one day captivate audiences around the globe.
Loud Magazine: How do you approach songwriting? Do you have a specific process or routine that helps you come up with ideas?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: When I write songs I use a method that I call embellished reality. This method is where I listen to a track to see how the track makes me feel. Next, I come up with a keyword or a concept that I feel is suitable for the track. Next, I start mumbling melodies. This helps to build a skeleton of a song and from there I build out the song with clever lyrics to make the song interesting and colorful.
Loud Magazine: What's the most meaningful or personal song you've written, and what inspired it?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: To date I would have to say my most meaningful song is a song called "Red Flags". This song is about a question that many men ask or would want to ask women. The song is basically speaking on why women think that making a man wait for sex is a good thing and why they think men see first date sex as a Red Flag. My most successful relationships were when me and the women took it to the bedroom quickly so I never see having sex with a person that you have good connection with as a Red Flag. Also this song has been my most successful song to date as it has over 40,000 streams on it!
Loud Magazine: How do you balance your artistic vision with commercial pressures or industry expectations?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: I think we are in a new era of music where authenticity wins. I make the type of music that I love to listen to. I believe that taking on this approach will maintain my artistic integrity because I'm always portraying my authentic self with each song that I do.
Loud Magazine: Can you walk us through your recording process? Do you have a preferred studio or producer that you work with?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: I prefer to record music in my home studio. When I'm home I think clearer and I'm at ease because I'm in my comfort zone with no other outside influences in my ears humming melodies or saying concepts that different come from in between my two ears. SDBoomin is definitely one of my favorite producers. He produced U 2 Rare as well as four other songs that we've created that will be releasing soon. Some of my other favorite producers that I've worked with are Marri Cozzy and SOWNDGOOD. I met them from purchasing beats off of the Beatstars website.
Loud Magazine: What do you think sets you apart from other artists in your genre, and how do you stay ahead of the curve?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: Authenticity sets me apart from most artists. You can't get my sound from listening to other artists. My voice is different and the way that I write is different as well as my look. All of these things make me different from any other artist that's out there. I stay ahead of the curve by keeping track of all of the latest trends/songs that are going viral and making sure my songs are authentically me but also keep elements of today's sound in them.
Loud Magazine: Have you ever had a particularly memorable or surreal experience while touring or performing live? What made it stand out?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: Actually this is the perfect question because my new single produced by SD Boomin and written by me is based around a memorable experience. *U 2 Rare is a song about when you first spot that woman that stands out in the crowd and you know that she is the person that you want to shoot your shot at. The song feels so good. It has an infectious vibe that will put listeners in a great mood. I was inspired to write this song because the track that SDBoomin made took me back to when I was doing a performance and while on stage I spotted a girl that stood out from the rest. She and I ended up having a great relationship after that.
Loud Magazine: How do you stay connected with your fans and build a sense of community around your music?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: I mainly stay connected to fans via Instagram. I make sure that I always respond to dm's and comments that fans leave on my social media posts.
Loud Magazine: Looking back on your career, is there a particular album, song, or moment that stands out as a highlight or defining moment for you? Why is it significant?
SDBoomin and Globalqtheartist: Looking back I would have to say that being able to work with established producers such as Bryan Cox and Anthoy Dent gave me the confidence that made me feel that I am good enough and there is a place for me in the industry. When producers of that caliber showed me love I felt stamped and I still feel this way til this day. I will be forever grateful to these two for showing me love at a young age.
