Lil Durk is asking the court to dismiss his federal murder-for-hire charges.
The Chicago drill rapper claims that prosecutors failed to include key information in his indictment, specifically about the alleged bounty he’s accused of placing on rival artist Quando Rondo in 2022.
He argues that it’s impossible to properly prepare his defense when the government’s theory is unclear and lacking detail about the supposed plot.
“This indictment is impermissibly vague,” Durk’s legal team wrote.
“It leaves the defense guessing about the government’s theory of guilt, while allowing prosecutors to shift their story as their witnesses change their versions of events to fit a conviction.”
The rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested last year after authorities accused him of instructing members of his Only the Family (OTF) crew to travel to Los Angeles and target Rondo.
The 2022 shooting, which took place at a gas station in Los Angeles, left Rondo (real name Tyquian Bowman) unharmed, though his friend Lul Pab (Saviay’a Robinson) was fatally shot.
Durk’s attorneys say a valid murder-for-hire indictment must clearly state what bounty was offered and how the alleged offer was made. Instead, the indictment claims that Durk used “coded language” to suggest he would reward Rondo’s killers with money or “profitable music opportunities.”
This marks the second time Durk’s lawyers have asked for the charges to be dismissed since his arrest last October.
Durk remains in custody while awaiting trial, after several unsuccessful attempts to secure bail.
