Olivia Rodrigo performed her new single “Drop Dead” live for the first time on Saturday night April 18 at Coachella, appearing as a surprise guest during Addison Rae’s set.
Rodrigo caught the crowd off guard when she stepped onto the main stage to join Rae for a performance of “Headphones On” from Rae’s Addison album. Her appearance had not been announced ahead of time.
As The Hollywood Reporter noted, Addison sang the lyric “I compare myself to the new It Girl,” before Olivia walked out to loud cheers from the audience in Indio, California. The excitement only grew when the two moved into Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead,” marking its first live performance. A fan recorded clip of the moment quickly made its way online.
Rae and Rodrigo traded lines throughout the verses, while both artists moved around the stage and kept the energy high as they hyped up the crowd.

“Drop Dead” serves as the lead single from Rodrigo’s upcoming third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. It was released on Friday alongside a music video directed by Petra Collins, which was filmed at the Palace of Versailles.
“I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them,” Rodrigo said while speaking with British Vogue, where she also shared that the album is filled with “sad love songs.”
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is scheduled to be released on June 12 through Geffen. Ahead of that, Rodrigo is set to take on both hosting and musical guest duties on Saturday Night Live on May 2.
