Perrie Edwards has revealed she was left in tears “all day” after an unexpected mishap just before her wedding to footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The former Little Mix star married Oxlade-Chamberlain in Portugal over the weekend, after nearly a decade together.
Speaking to Vogue, Edwards said the celebration mostly went smoothly, but she was devastated after losing a deeply meaningful piece of jewellery in the lead-up to the ceremony.
“Alex gave me a diamond necklace after I gave birth to Axel and I wear it every single day, but the day before I came away to Portugal it went missing,” she said. “I cried all day, we looked everywhere - we even checked the hoover - but it was gone and I was convinced someone had stolen it.”
Things changed on the morning of the wedding when hairstylist Aaron Carlo helped ease her nerves while she was getting ready.
“He was sorting through my hair extensions and he said, ‘Okay, Perrie: what I'm about to show you is your something old, your something new, your everything in one, and you're going to cry,’” she recalled.
It was then discovered that the missing necklace had been tangled in her hair the entire time.
“I sobbed,” she said. “I was so happy and so relieved. It set the tone - I knew from that moment it was gonna be the best day ever.”
Edwards added that emotions ran high throughout the ceremony itself, with both her and Oxlade-Chamberlain becoming overwhelmed as she walked down the aisle.
“We both just cried our eyes out,” she said.
The couple married in a Catholic church in the village of Estoi in the Algarve, Portugal, surrounded by friends and family, including former Little Mix members Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.
Edwards wore multiple bridal looks over the course of the day, including designs by Dana Harel and Galia Lahav.
Perrie and Oxlade-Chamberlain began dating in 2016, became engaged in 2022, and share two children together: son Axel, four, and daughter Alanis, five months old.
