Former NBA champion Tristan Thompson says he hopes he can help repair the strained relationship between Drake and LeBron James.
During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Thompson was asked about his longtime friendship with Drake and whether he believes he could help reunite the rapper and the NBA superstar after their apparent falling out.
“Drake’s my brother,” Thompson said, explaining that the two have known each other since he was 17 years old. “I’ve known him since I’ve been 17. That’s family. Always gonna ride with him. Like you said, he was there when my mom passed away. We have a relationship. I spoke to him during last week, as well. We’re close. I mean, the beauty about all of us Canadians… you know, we all root for each other. For myself, I’m close with Drake, but I’m also close with The Weeknd. I love The Weeknd, that’s my brother, as well. PARTYNEXTDOOR, love him, as well. That’s all family.”
He continued by speaking about the pride shared by artists and athletes from Toronto. “For us from Toronto, we look at [it] as ‘Toronto vs. the World.’ We’re called the Screwface Capital. We come with a chip on our shoulders. Obviously, Drake has led the way in the entertainment and music industry, doing his thing. Hip-hop needed him. You see when he dropped three albums.”
When Sharpe suggested that Thompson might be the person capable of bringing Drake and LeBron back together, the former NBA forward smiled before admitting he has already been trying to make that happen.
“I would love to,” Thompson replied. “Listen, yeah. Listen. I’m trying, man. I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying.”
Drake and LeBron have reportedly been at odds since the basketball icon attended Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out concert, an event widely viewed as a significant moment in Lamar’s ongoing rivalry with the Canadian rapper.
