Kodak Black and Lil Baby are scheduled to appear on the forthcoming remix of “Spend Dat.” However, Kodak’s involvement immediately reminded listeners of the threat he made toward Miami while she was pregnant in 2019, as well as the frightening shooting she escaped several days later.
Miami confirmed the featured artists on Wednesday after spending the week hinting at two surprise collaborators. “Wham & Yak WTF IS UPPPPPP!! Spend Dat Remix OUT THIS FRIDAY!” she wrote on X. The updated track will be released on August 28, while “Spend Dat” continues the successful solo streak that has taken the former City Girls member into the highest positions of the Billboard Hot 100.
Yung Miami Moves Forward With Another Collaboration
Still, Kodak’s participation made certain listeners uncomfortable for reasons that had nothing to do with the music. During his incarceration in 2019, the Florida rapper shared a freestyle that mentioned Miami’s pregnancy with producer Southside. Kodak claimed he had once purchased a ring for her before threatening to strike her stomach if they crossed paths. Southside later answered Kodak through an angry video.
The comments appeared even more alarming after bullets struck Miami’s Mercedes Benz SUV only days afterward. According to the Miami Herald, she was departing Circle House Studios in North Miami Dade during the early morning of August 6, 2019, when an unidentified person opened fire on the vehicle. Miami was pregnant during the incident but escaped without injuries. Law enforcement verified that bullets hit the SUV, although investigators never connected Kodak or his freestyle to the attack. That important detail has often been overlooked whenever both incidents are discussed together on social media.
Miami has not publicly suggested that the controversy changed her decision to move ahead with the record. Kodak is still featured on the “Spend Dat” remix with Lil Baby, and its Friday, August 28 release remains scheduled. Earlier in the summer, Miami named Drake as her ideal addition while speaking about a possible remix. The confirmed guests have instead transformed what might have been a straightforward celebration into another discussion about her choice to work with an artist who previously made a public threat against her.
