Katharine McPhee is showing her support for Spencer Pratt as he continues his campaign to become the next mayor of Los Angeles.
The former American Idol contestant performed a playful version of Tina Turner’s 1989 classic “The Best” during a fundraiser for Pratt, changing the lyrics to support his political run.
“You're simply the best / Better than all the rest / Better than Karen Bass / And Nithya Raman,” McPhee sang, referencing current Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass and City Council member Nithya Raman, who are both part of the race.
She continued the performance by singing, “He's gonna fix this broken LA,” while her husband, legendary producer David Foster, accompanied her on piano.
Pratt sat directly behind McPhee during the performance and appeared fully entertained, nodding along and tapping his foot as she sang.
The fundraiser took place earlier this week at McPhee and Foster’s home. One America News Network personality Alicia Summers later shared clips from the event on Instagram.
“You know the tide is turning in California when @DavidFoster and @katharinefoster open their home and write a song for @SpencerPratt,” Summers wrote in the caption.
She also added: “La La Land is ready for a plot twist.”
Pratt officially launched his campaign in January, nearly a year after he and his wife Heidi Montag lost the home they shared with their sons, Ryker and Gunner Stone, during the Los Angeles wildfires.
At the time, the former reality television star promised supporters he planned to challenge the city’s political system head on.
“We're going into every dark corner of LA politics and disinfecting the city... and when we are done, LA is going to be camera-ready again,” Pratt said earlier this year.
According to campaign finance records reviewed by People magazine last month, Pratt has already raised more campaign funding than current mayor Karen Bass.
Although Pratt is a registered Republican, he is running in the mayoral race as an independent candidate.
