Bonnie Tyler is reportedly “seriously ill but stable” after being hospitalized in Faro following emergency surgery.
The 74 year old singer fell ill while staying in the Algarve and underwent emergency intestinal surgery last week. She is currently recovering at a hospital in Faro.
In an updated statement shared with BBC News, Tyler’s spokesperson said doctors remain optimistic about her recovery.
“As of this morning, Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however, her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery,” the spokesperson said.
“When there is any further news of Bonnie's condition, then we will issue another statement.”
The Total Eclipse of the Heart singer, who owns a home in Faro, was first taken to hospital on Wednesday, May 6. Reports later stated she was placed into an induced coma after the emergency operation.
Two days later, a message shared on Tyler’s official Facebook page thanked supporters for the “incredible outpouring of love and well wishes” she has received.
The statement added: “It truly means the world.”
Several celebrities have since publicly shared messages of support, including Gloria Gaynor, who wrote: “Wishing you a swift recovery, Bonnie!”
Tyler’s guitarist Ed Poole also shared that he and the rest of the band are “hoping and praying that she pulls through.”
Bonnie Tyler remains best known for her massive 1983 hit Total Eclipse of the Heart and also represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013.
