Camron Jones has been added to the cast of the forthcoming Snoop Dogg biographical film.
The actor, widely recognised for portraying Bishop Moore in the young adult drama ‘Panic’, will take on the role of rapper Tupac Shakur in ‘Snoop’.
Jones attended Magdalen College Oxford through the British American Drama Academy’s Midsummer in Oxford programme in 2017. His previous television credits also include ‘Grown-ish’, ‘The Purge’ and ‘Shameless’.
Jonathan Daviss, known for appearing in the Netflix series ‘Outer Banks’, will play Snoop Dogg. The film follows the rapper’s rise from Long Beach, California, to becoming one of hip hop’s most successful and recognisable artists.
Casting has gathered pace in recent weeks, with Myles Bullock set to portray Dr. Dre and Lauren London playing Dogg’s mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Shakur became one of the most prominent figures in West Coast rap before he was killed in a drive by shooting in 1996.
Dogg and Shakur were both members of the Death Row Records roster and worked together on songs including ‘2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted’.
Their friendship later deteriorated after Shakur pressured Dogg to choose a side in the rivalry between the West Coast and East Coast rap scenes.
Former gang leader Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis is currently facing trial for Shakur’s murder, almost three decades after the rapper was fatally shot.
